In this free Chinese dictionary there are stroke order animations for a lot of characters.
We are creating new ones every week but if we were to create to them all, it would take many years before
we have a complete database.
If every user of this dictionary made at least one stroke order animation, we would have a
complete database within a year. Your time and effort will help countless of other students
struggling with learning Chinese or Japanese. To make it easier for you to help we have included
a tool to create animations. This is how it works:
Step 1:
On the second last tab in the software there is a button with the text "Create stroke order animations". Click the button to begin.

There are 4 ways to get a character to create an animation to. Choose any of the green buttons.
- "Download character" Will get you a random character from the database.
- "Find character" Will let you type in the pinyin for a character and choose a character.
- "Missing characters from your study list" This is for users of our "Chinese Homework trainer software"
- "Traditional characters" Gives you a list with traditional characters where the simplified version is done.
When we have downloaded a character to create a stroke order animation to we are set to go.
First we need to know the radical part of the character. On the top left part of the window we have the radical shown in traditional and simplified version.
since this character begin with the radical we click that radio button labelled "Radical". To the right of the radio button there are radio buttons labelled "pause" and "Combined"
Some characters are combinations of two or more strokes and then we need to set the stroke to be combinations. This will prevent a pause to occur between the strokes in the combination.
In this example our first stroke is a single stroke so we choose "Pause" instead.
The last thing we need to do before we start the drawing is to choose stroke type. Our first stroke is a "pie" so we click that radio button.
Now we are ready to start the drawing
